HYMN WORKSHOP

Do you wish you knew some new hymns? Do you like the words of hymns but find the music challenging? Do you love old tunes but wish the words were different? Do you enjoy singing hymns? Do you wonder why we sing hymns anyway? Do you want to think about more expansive ways of using music in worship? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this hymn workshop is for you!

We will be meeting Saturday, March 14th, from 9:30am to 12:00 p.m. in the Choir Room.

We will sing some old favourites, learn some new music, talk about what hymns mean to us and why we sing them anyway, and think about what goes into writing a hymn. You are welcome to come whether you are 8 or 98, whether you don’t even dare sing in the shower or are an experienced musician or singer.

Coffee and tea will be available starting at 9:00am. For those who would like to stay afterward for further conversation, you are welcome to bring a bagged lunch. Come, and make a joyful noise – whether or not the notes are in tune! If you know you plan to attend, letting Emily know will help her set up the room. Also, if you might be interested in accompanying one or more hymns on piano or another instrument, please let Emily know and she can give you some music ahead of time.
